For many colleagues, speaking about occlusion means generating confusion! As a matter of fact, Occlusion (with the capital O) is a topic that often brings with it controversies and strong personal convictions. The lecturer will describe his approach to the reestablishment of a proper occlusion both in situations where the prosthetic needs of the patient are limited and those where we are called to rehabilitate a full mouth, regardless of whether the supporting abutments are natural teeth or implants.

The following are the main topics that will be discussed:
Which are the basic objectives of any occlusal rehabilitation?
Can the vertical dimension of occlusion be varied? If so, what are the implications of such a change?
How is anterior guidance developed clinically and how is it verified?
How do changes in overbite and overjet influence the effectiveness of anterior guidance?
When should maximum intercuspation be employed and when centric relation and how are they recorded?
Which are the main occlusal and morphological features of an implant-supported prosthesis, from the single tooth to a full arch?

The illustration of several clinical cases and an interactive discussion with the audience will help focus the important issues and thought processes to be applied when planning a rehabilitation from an occlusal and esthetic point of view.
